Founded by Brian Cohen in 2015, The Documentary Works (TDW) is dedicated to the production of group-based, collaborative documentary photography projects that shine a light on justice-oriented topics.  The stories of TDW are of national relevance yet produced almost entirely from Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania; they call attention to the relationships between topics that are otherwise treated as autonomous, isolated phenomena; and they open up a space for civil conversation about these issues.

The Documentary Works’ productions range from large scale touring exhibits to local pop-ups.  They can be augmented by programming; published in book form; and are pushed out on the internet.

There is a long tradition of documentary photography in Pittsburgh dating back to the earliest days of the twentieth century.  TDW is proud to contribute to this legacy.  You can see some of the images from TDW projects on this website, and for more information about TDW and its projects, you can go to thedocumentaryworks.org or contact Brian here.
